I’m so excited to join in the fun as a new member of the BBRBF book club this month and give you my review of The Bette Davis Club, by Jane Lotter.
Even though it was a little slow to get into, after the first few chapters, I was hooked and in it for the long haul. This book has a great sense of humor, and I actually laughed out loud a few times while reading.
The book follows Margo, who goes on an impromptu road trip, enlisted by her sister to locate her niece Georgia, who has just run away on the day of her wedding. Margo is accompanied by Georgia’s would-be groom, Tully, who you can imagine is not the most cheerful traveling companion. At least not at first. Oh, and of course I must mention, they are traveling in Margo’s late father’s classic car, a 1955 MG TF! This is why for this shoot, I chose to feature my father’s classic 1965 Ford Mustang. My dad has spent nearly twenty years restoring this car for himself and my mom, and it is a true labor of love.
I loved the characters in The Bette Davis Club, as well as the interesting situations they continuously found themselves in. I chose a classic “little black dress” to represent the book because of one of the quirky situations Margo finds herself in is a dance competition with an almost stranger. This person tells Margo to wear a little black dress for the competition.
Throughout the book, Margo stumbles upon several “treasures”, so I thought it was appropriate to wear these shoes. These are my one and only pair of designer shoes, my Christian Louboutins. I found these beauties for $2 in a tiny thrift shop in southern Nevada!! It is one of my all time top thrift finds ever.
I ended up falling in love with the characters of this book, and I would definitely recommend it. The author did a great job of creating characters that I cared about, and felt like I knew. The book has a good ending with just enough pleasant surprises to keep it interesting and unpredictable, yet fairly believable.

Thanks so much for reading! I’m looking forward to next months book, The Invisible Life of Ivan Isaenko by Stephan Stambach.
I LOVE your post! It is SO cool that you had a classic car to pose with and I adore your nod to Margo’s LBD! Well done! Clearly, if this book were turned into a movie, they have their Margo (albeit younger version) and their car right here!!! π

I just love your outfit and that wonderful classic car!
Your shoes were a real bargain. I spend hours looking for secondhand items in our equivalent of thrift stores in the UK – we call them charity shops and I write about them on my blog

You look like such a Hollywood starlet in these photos! I love that you chose to represent Margo’s black dress, well ok, so it was Charlottes’s, but whatever!
And I CANNOT believe you found those shoes for $2! Teach me your thrifting ways!

The photo of you in the car is amazing, like something out of a glossy magazine. Would you help me by completing my survey (for a college project) and its all about vintage/vintage fashion so don’t worry you won’t be bored ha! I would greatly appreciate it and anyone is welcome to join in the fun too! Thanks >>> From original vintage to vintage-style β€
